Debbie Moores...

What areas of communication have you worked in?
Corporate and Retail Sales (Telephone and face to face – ( Business to Business), Customer Service, Training of Sales and Customer service and Recruitmentin small businesses and various Recruitment Agencies (included Interviewing Andbusiness development) and Design Communication.

What are the most important skills needed to work in these industries?

To have a broad understanding of the media industry and to be able to multi-task, good planning and time management skills, determination and sound research skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

What personal qualities do you think employers look for?
Confidence, enthusiasm, determination, good presentation skills, the ability to multi-task and willingness to work hard and continually develop oneself.

What would impress you most on a C.V.?
The ability to communicate effectively and concisely in writing would be one of the first things I would be impressed by. I would also be impressed by any work experience gained by the candidate, either voluntary or paid that had been a result of their own efforts and initiative. I suppose overall I would be looking for evidence of initiative and good communication skills.

What part of work in the industry did you most enjoy, and why?
This is a difficult question, but I suppose I enjoyed Sales and Business development, as I enjoyed the challenge and relationship building necessary to achieve my aims. It was also very varied and the rewards could be high and very satisfying.

What is the most important practical skill we should remember from the unit you taught us?
Hopefully it will be the ability to be creative and open-minded. Design was obviously the main area of importance in the two core units that I taught on this course. I hope that you appreciated the importance of design as an essential tool of communication in the increasingly visual world in which we live and will be able to refer to this and apply it in your future careers in different ways.

What is the most important source of information you use on a regular bases?
A combination of all of these, as well as journals. Obviously the web is possibly the most up to date, but not always the most accurate
